Bernece Azalee Bryan Alexander, 98, of Cedar Creek, Texas,
passed Thursday, February 15th, 2018, in Austin, TX. Bernece
was born January 28th, 1920 in High Grove, Bastrop County,
TX to father Alva Carnes Bryan and mother Clara Beulah
Hanna. She lived in Cedar Creek, TX and attended school at
the 2 room schoolhouse at High Grove, and graduated from
Bastrop high school. She also attended business school to
become a bookkeeper and worked as a bookkeeper until
the age of 90.
She enjoyed dancing, gardening, making jewelry, playing
games and loved being surrounded by her grandchildren
and great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and book
collector. She was an expert seamstress and made most
of her children's clothing until they were teenagers. She also
taught her granddaughters to sew. She was a life-long member
of the Baptist church, was treasurer for the Golden Rule Dance
Club, was a member of the board of directors at the South
Austin Senior Activity Center for 1 year and a line dance
instructor there for 10 years.
She is survived by her daughter Cherryle Jeanne Alexander
and her son James Bryan Alexander, grandchildren Jessica
Downey, Adrienne Morris, Rachel Kuehl, Aaron Alexander,
James Morris, Ruth Tittley, Micaiah Alexander, Esther Richards,
Annabeth French, their spouses, 14 great-grandchildren, and
several nieces, nephews and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her husband James "Mug"
Bransford Alexander, father Alva Carnes Bryan, mother
Clara Beulah Hanna, brothers Lonnie Randolph Hanna and
Alva Carnes Bryan Jr., her sister Eunice Beatrice Lewis, and
nephew Vernon Wayne Lewis.
Services to be held Tuesday, February 20th at
Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home in Bastrop, TX, with
visitation starting at 11:00 AM and the service at 1:00 PM.
