Carolyn Harris, age 82, passed away peacefully at Silver Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bastrop, Texas on December 8th, 2023. She had been a resident there for the past three years.
Carolyn was raised on a farm outside of Sioux City, Iowa along with her brother Dennis. When her father made a career of the then Army Air Corps, she moved to unique places such as the Philippines. When her father retired from the Air Force in Wichita, KS, they settled there, and she began working for the Boeing Aircraft Company where she met Sue Harris. Sue introduced Carolyn to her brother – SSgt Howard Harris. They fell in love and were married soon after. Once again on the move, they lived in many new places such as Spokane, WA; Plattsburgh, NY; Madrid, Spain; San Antonio, TX; and Gulfport, MS. They settled in Hurst, TX upon Howard’s retirement from the military where they lived for 20 years. There, Carolyn worked in the healthcare field as a caregiver as she had a passion for helping others. She had a love of interior design and fashion. She loved to cook and was especially known for her baked goods, homemade bread pudding and pound cake.
She was predeceased by her parents, James and Ardis Ledbetter, her dear husband Howard Harris, and brother Roger Ledbetter. She is survived by her two brothers, Dennis Ledbetter and James Ledbetter, three children, daughter Tonia Ham (David) of Cedar Creek, TX, sons, Scott Harris (Tracy) of Boerne, TX and Stephen Harris of Muskogee, OK. Also survived by three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; Kara Magers (Michael), Alexander, Ava, and Maverick Magers of Ennis, TX; Brian Ham (Cindy) of Cypress, TX and Victoria Ham (Connor) of Austin, TX. She will be greatly missed by her sisters-in-law, Sue Ball, Nina Luce, Josie Harris, and Julie Harris, brothers-in-law, Ray Harris and Richard Harris (Beka), and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Silver Pines Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the loving care and support Carolyn received during her residency there.
Carolyn will be laid to rest at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, December 27th, 2023 at 1:00 pm.
