David Watson Stewart, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away surrounded by loved ones on October 13, 2024. Born in Madison, Wisconsin on August 12, 1947, David’s life was defined by his service to our Lord, love for his family, and passion for the great outdoors. In 1964 he met his high school sweetheart, Becky. They married 1966, beginning a devoted 58 year partnership of love and faith. Their greatest joy was sharing life with their children and grandchildren.
David attended LSU and graduated from Northwestern State University with a degree in Industrial and Electrical Engineering with further studies in Business Management. He proudly served seven years in the US Army National Guard as a communication specialist with top secret security clearance. David was blessed his entire professional career with a spirit of entrepreneurship. He used this gift in the fields of commercial merchandise, sporting goods, industrial electronics, high-tech computing, private consulting markets, and owning his own software development company.
A true outdoors man, he loved being in creation hunting, fishing and enjoying time with friends. He loved sharing stories of his adventures all over North America. He loved the many fishing trips to south Louisiana with family and friends. LSU football ranked as one of his top interests and he spent a lot of time watching, re watching, cheering, fussing, and laughing with friends through many games.
David’s life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to serving others. His deep faith guided every aspect of his life, and he lived in service to our Lord and to those he loved. He always made time to be there for others in service and generosity, whether it was offering a helping hand or simply sharing a kind word. David had a determined spirit to face challenges with vision and optimism. Never meeting a stranger, he formed friendships easily and maintained them for a lifetime.
When life took a tragic turn in February 2022, David confronted his declining health with remarkable courage, perseverance, and steadfast faith in God. He continued to share his faith and encouragement to multitudes of people in a world of the hurting and discouraged. At the same time, he fulfilled his commitment of service and ministry at First Baptist Church of Bastrop and elsewhere with love and tenacity. David will be deeply missed, but his example of love, faith, and service will always endure.
David is survived by his loving wife Becky; son Ken and granddaughter, Caris; daughter Ceseley Rollins, husband Chris, and their children Will, Allison, and Henry. He is also survived by his sister JoAnn Shaw, husband Larry, and their children Deborah, Bart, Stephen, Chris, Wade, and Jana; brother-in-law Mark Mitchell, wife Tamela, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Clara Sue Stewart, and Becky’s parents, Virgil and Agatha Mitchell, who are rejoicing with him in Heaven.
