David Bruce Muniz "Dave" as his friends knew him, age 65, was born October 4, 1955 in Corpus Christi, Texas, lived most of his life in Houston, resided in Bastrop Texas for the last 16 years and passed away January 1, 2021 at Seton Medical Center, Austin Texas. He attended Madison High School, in Houston, graduating with the class of ‘75.
Dave, “Bruce” as known by his family, ran like the wind in track, loved the game of baseball, classic cars, and music. Dave was clever and amusingly ingenious with his words as they were very important to him. He had the uncanny ability to speak the truth, many sought his advice.
Dave is survived by best friend and wife, Donna Muniz in Bastrop Texas, who were always together; daughters, Dana Muniz Becker and son-in-law, Joseph Becker from The Woodlands Texas, Lanae Diehl Anderson from Illinois, step-daughter Jennifer Wright Breland from Tyler Texas. Grandchildren, Jane Lynn, Joshua Xavier, and Joseph David Becker, of The Woodlands, step grandchildren Michael and Abigail Breland, Summer, Savannah, Madison, and Emily Wright; Mother, Irma Quintero Muniz, from Corpus Christie Texas, Mother-in-law, Margaret Edge and her husband George of Alvin, Texas, Sisters, Belinda White of Houston Texas, Cyndi Gomez, and brother-in-law Juan Gomez from Sealy, Texas, Sister-in-law Debra Ripka and her husband Rick of Bandera, Texas, Nephews Cody White, Shane White and wife Minh from Houston Texas, Seth Gomez from Sealy Texas, a number of cousins and friends with whom he was particularly close. Dave always made phone calls to his family and friends, on New Year’s Eve, including his first wife Lisa Walz Muniz, and his best friend Richard De La Haya, both he loved dearly, Richard for always being there, and Lisa for giving him his greatest gift, his beloved daughter Dana.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Reyes Muniz from Three Rivers Texas, and his beloved niece, Mariah White from Houston Texas.
Dave and Donna’s 29th anniversary would have been on February 2, 2021 (Groundhog Day). He battled serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Dave stayed strong in his faith until the end. His death leaves behind a devastated family and friends. We will celebrate his life at a later date when gatherings are appropriate.
