Dorothy Haynie

Born on January 17, 1923 in Smithville, Texas,, Dorothy L. Haynie passed away in Eagle Lake, Texas on June 25,  2019.  A direct descendant of the Reverend John Haynie, one of nine circuit riders who brought the Methodist church to Texas, Dorothy shared the same strong Christian roots with her children.

As a mother, Dorothy instilled her great love of reading, creative writing and painting soft pastel water colors in her children along with a deep love for family pets. Her care giving spirit was evident through her devotion to others later in life as an in home health care assistant and companion.

Affectionately called Grandma Dot by family and friends, her favorite color was pink and roses her favorite flower, which her children loved to bring to her - her favorite songs included "I'll Be Seeing You," "I will fly away" and "You are My Sunshine" plus classical and popular music from the 40s and 50s -- and of course, for anyone who knew her, she loved backyard bird watching, especially bright red Cardinals.

An avid reader full of curiosity well into her late 80s -- as well as a news and weather hound -- she stayed up to date on world events, politics, sports and anything else happening around the globe -- she knew all about modern technology thanks to shared emails, photos on family iPads, cell phone videos and text messaging.  She loved her morning coffee and like many of her relatives, was a true night owl, watching news, old movies and sitcoms well into the wee hours of morning.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Wilson Daniel and Violet L. Haynie along with brothers Dan and Richard Haynie and sister Barbara. She is survived by her brother the Rev. Walter B. (Clara) Haynie, sisters Dolores Jones, Inez West and Harriet Patterson. Children include twins Lynn (Brian) Reinhardt, Rick Felts, R.L. Otwell, grandchildren Robin (Jason) Warman, Heather (Kevin) Garfinkle, Amber Otwell, Dustin Otwell and several great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Gone but never forgotten, her corn flower blue eyes and sweet smile will be with us until we depart this earth - blessed to call her mother -- and blessed to share her intellect, wit and fun loving humor.  Mama, you are dearly missed !
