Dorwin "Buddy" French, 71, of Bastrop, Texas passed away peacefully in the early morning
hours of Saturday, April 13, 2019 at home on Garfield Street after a long battle with
numerous health issues.
He was born to Wilma and Bryson French, Sr. on January 7, 1948 in Cameron, Texas. He served
as a Navy Seabee in the Vietnam War for 3 years, from 1967 to 1970, where operated heavy
equipment.
A short year after returning from the war, Buddy married the love of his life, Debby Robinson on
November 19. 1971. They were married 47 years, while building their lives and raising 2 children
in Bastrop, Texas. Dorwin enjoyed tinkering on any engine that needed work. He's known for his
love for Harley Davidson Motorcycles and classic fast cars he called Hot Rods. He even enjoyed
flying ultra-light airplanes for a period of time. Dorwin had an intimidating appearance, but would
do anything, at any time, for anyone in need. He stood his ground firmly on his beliefs and always
fought for the underdog.
Dorwin is survived by: his wife, Debby French; daughter Jennifer and her children, Garrett, Breanna,
and Avery French; son, Zac and his child, Blakely French; brothers, Bryson, Jr. and Dixie, Mike and
Sheryl, Jimmy and Terri and Greg and Susan French; and many nieces and nephews.
Immediately following the service at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home There will be a reception at
the American Legion Post #533 in Bastrop, Texas.
