Edward Laundy

Edward Joseph Laundy was born in Kansas City, Kansas on January 13, 1943 to Edward Frank Laundy, Jr. and Helena Louisa Stubler Laundy.  After graduation from Wyandotte High School in 1961, Edward (Butch) joined the Air Force which became his career for the next 20 years.  While stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois, he met the love of his life, Roberta Anne Miller on a blind date. They were married 3 months later.

After retiring from the Air Force, Ed went to work for the Texas Department of Public Safety. As part of the Division of Emergency Management, he assisted countless people recover from natural disasters, starting as an auditor and finally retiring as Disaster Recovery Manager.

An active leader in Cub and Boy Scouts and Explorers, Ed always had a soft heart for children and young people.  This love of children led him to a third “career” as Santa.  His Santa alter ego appeared before he even had a white beard.  For almost 30 years, early November brought out the red suit and candy canes. He was known as Santa to the children at Cedar Creek United Methodist Church until his death.

His faith in Christ was renewed on a Walk to Emmaus in 1999. He was baptized and became a member of Cedar Creek United Methodist Church where his dedication led him to many activities, including leading bible studies, chairing committees, beginning programs and serving however he was called by God.  One he was most pleased with was the CCUMC team for the Texas Ramp Project.  In the 4 years he led the program, over 40 ramps were built for those in the Cedar Creek area who needed assistance.

Ed loved to camp, travel, and spend time with his cherished grandchildren.  Family was vitally important to him. He was always ready and willing to give his assistance and support, sometimes by action, other times by simply being a sympathetic ear in times of need.

The Lord took him to his eternal home from his earthly home on Monday, October 7, after a battle with cancer.

Ed was preceded in death by his Father, Mother, and sister Jeanne.  He is survived by his loving wife Roberta, son Robert (Rob), sister Linda, grandchildren Seth Edward and Sarah Elizabeth Laundy and numerous nieces and nephews.

The life of Edward Joseph Laundy touched the lives of countless others throughout the years.  His absence will leave a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, but we know that one day we will be reunited, so we do not say goodbye, but “see you later, beloved husband, father, GPa and dear and cherished friend”.

I am in the winter of my life. Spring, my youth, was desperate

Summer, the young adult years, were tempestuous

Fall was a time of learning to live within myself.

Now, I look back and see little to regret.

I have a wife, I love beyond reason,

A son and two grand kids whom I cherish,.

I serve the Lord as best I know how. I am at peace with the world.

Oh, my memory fails me.

I will probably not remember your name when we meet

I get tired easily when I work, but I get out and get things done.

Slowly, to be sure. But done.

I am fairly sure someone has changed the weight of things I buy.

Twenty pounds of ice weighs a lot more then it used to.

Or, is it just me?

My recliner calls to me more often now.

It can't seem to take a nap alone. Or, is it just me.

I sit on the porch most evenings. No TV for a spell.

No books. No music. Just nature, God and me.

Feels good, this thing I call winter. It fits me.

So, live your life to it's fullest. Love someone. Let them love you.

And hug the next person you see. They need it and so do you.

God Took Him To His Loving Home
God saw him getting tired, a cure was not to be.
He wrapped him in his loving arms and whispered "Come with me".
He suffered much in silence, his spirit did not bend.
He faced his pain with courage, until the very end.
He tried so hard to stay with us but his fight was not in vain,
God took him to His loving home and freed him from the pain.
