Erlene Augusta (Friske) Goertz, 96. passed away peacefully on July 27th, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her husband William (Bill) Goertz, by her parents Ben and Hilda Friske and siblings Dorothy Goertz, William Friske and Marvin Friske. She is survived by her daughters Debra King, Susan Wise and husband Nate; grandchildren Michelle Tucker and husband Keith, Dannon King and wife Lee Ann, Clint Wise and wife Brenna, and Blake Wise; great-grandchildren Carter and Wyatt King and Charli and Everett Wise; and her brother Oscar Friske.
Before getting married, Erlene’s first job was at the Locke’s Drug store in Bastrop, Texas, in the soda fountain area. She later worked for the Texas Department of Transportation in the map department. Erlene often mentioned that she enjoyed viewing the State roadmaps when published each year.
Erlene and Bill, along with their two young daughters, moved to Lubbock, Texas. They became members of Christ the King Catholic Church. Erlene was a stay-at-home mom for a few years and later worked 10 years as dessert cook at Evans Junior High School.
Upon their retirement, Bill and Erlene moved back to the Bastrop, Texas area. Erlene was a member of the Ascension Catholic Church in Bastrop for several years and later transferred to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockne, Texas. She was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 2527 near Rockne.
Erlene enjoyed sewing for her family and canning items from her large vegetable garden. She enjoyed cooking for her family as they met often on Sunday afternoons. She loved to play bingo and rarely missed the Wednesday night games at the VFW Post.
Erlene will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation and Rosary will be held on Thursday, August 5, 2021 in the Holtman Hall at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Rockne, Texas. Visitation will begin at 6:00pm and followed by the Rosary at 7:00pm. The funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021, at 10:30am at the Sacred Heart Church in Rockne. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.
