Flora Mae "Flo" Solomon, age 81, of Bastrop, Texas was called
to her heavenly home on June 11, 2018 at her home. She was
born February 1, 1937 in Apache, Oklahoma to Lloyd and Faye
Holland. She graduated high school in Ardmore, Oklahoma in
1954. Flo was married to James F. Solomon in Ardmore,
Oklahoma in March of 1953 having met at a dime store where
Flo worked.
Flo was a Special Accounts Officer for Texas Bay Area Credit
Union in Deer Park, Texas until her retirement in 1995. She and
James moved to Bastrop that same year.
They became members of First Baptist Church of Bastrop where
they were active in many church activities. Flo played the piano
and organ, the autoharp and sang in the Joy (Just Older Youth)
Group. In recent times Flo and James attended the Calvary Baptist
Church in Bastrop.
Flo enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, bluegrass music and
traveling the country in their motorhome. Most of all, she loved
being a "Meme". Everyone fell in love with her incredible peanut
brittle.
Flo was preceded in death by: her parents; a sister, Betty Brooks
and a brother, Alonzo "Butch" Holland.
Flo is survived by: her husband of 65 years, James F. Solomon;
children, James A. Solomon, Timothy Solomon and wife Twila,
Ginger Yocom and husband Stephen "Steve", and Penny Scott and
husband Donald (Don); grandchildren, Shane Fleming, Amber
Mayfield, Crishawn Costa, Timothy J. Solomon, Megan Rangel,
Jonathon Yocom and Jessica Lockhart and numerous
great-grandchildren. Flo is also survived by her "fur child", Smokey
the kitty.
A Gathering of Relatives and Friends was held at Marrs-Jones-Newby
Funeral Home in Bastrop on June 14, 2018. Burial is June 19, 2018
in Central Texas Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, Texas.
