Fred Reed was born in Kentucky on April 2, 1937. He went to be with the Lord on December 13, 2022 in Austin, Texas at the age of 85.
When Fred came to Bastrop, Texas he and his family took over the Cassell Restaurant (now the Mediterranean Grill), which they operated for many years. Later Fred had his own construction business until his health prevented it. He and his family joined the First Baptist Church of Bastrop shortly after coming to Bastrop where he actively served as a deacon until his death.
Fred will be loving remembered by many: his wife of 63 years, Karen; sons, Fred Ray Reed and wife Tammy, David Reed and wife Heidi; a daughter, Frieda Reed Stark and husband Gary; brothers, Ralph Hensley and wife Diana, A. J. Hensley and wife Barbara; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and a multitude of other folks that he loved as family.
Fred was preceded in death by: his father, Ivan Reed; his mother, Merlie Baker Reed Hensley; a brother, Chester Reed; a sister, Pauline Lucinda “Cindy” Ramond; a brother, John “Big John” Hensley; and a brother, Ambrose “Jim” Reed.
The loss is immeasurable, but so is the love left behind.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at Marrs Jones Newby Funeral Home.
The funeral home is located at 505 Old Austin Highway in Bastrop, Texas.
Funeral services will be at10:00am on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the First Baptist Church.
The church is located at 1201 Water Street in Bastrop, Texas.
Graveside Honors and burial will be at 3:00pm on Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at Memorial Hill Park.
The cemetery is located at 14501 North Interstate Hwy 35 in Pflugerville, Texas.
