Harold Broadbent

April 18, 1944 — December 31, 2016

Harold Lewis Broadbent, age 72, of Waelder passed away suddenly on December 31, 2016 from complications of injuries sustained in an accident on December 28, 2016.

Harold was born in Austin, Texas on April 18, 1944 to Doc and Nell Broadbent. He was a very devoted son and a loving and devoted husband to Bobbie for over 30 years.

Harold leaves behind to cherish his memories; his wife Bobbie; a son, Ryan Broadbent and wife Julie; a granddaughter, Shelly; a daughter Shannon Meyers and husband Richard; grandchildren, Kelley and Cody; his mother, Nell Broadbent; a brother, David Broadbent and wife, Jo Ellen; nieces, Stephanie and Andrea; step-son, Rusty Bowman; grandson Zachary and wife Deborah; step-son, Randy Bowman; granddaughter Mandi; step-son David Drosche and wife Amber; and granddaughter Destinee.

Harold was preceded in death by his father, H.V.W. Broadbent.

Harold worked for Kash and Karry and Western Electric. He then went to electronics school and made a career of 37 years and 8 months with the Texas Department of Health (Emergency Management) having retired in 2003.

During his career he also was a member of the Jaycees where he served as Secretary for some time. He was also a 46 year member of the Texas Credit Union and served on the Credit Committee for 5 years, Audit Committee for 2 years, and the Board of Directors for 23 years being Chairman for 19 years. He received many awards over the years for Leadership, Service, Safety, and EMS Training.

In 2006 Harold and Bobbie bought 100 acres of beautiful country acreage in Bastrop County where they built their dream home in 2010. There they spent their days enjoying working outdoors.

Harold was such an incredibly humble man with so much wit and humor. He never met a stranger and was there to offer and give help to anyone in need.
Harold's last activity was doing the thing he loved most in life; riding his motorcycle!

Bobbie would like to thank the staff, doctors, nurses and everyone who cared for Harold at St. David's South Austin Medical Center Trauma Section (SPICU). Harold had around the clock loving and tremendous care with special attention and care by all during his last 6 hours in efforts to save him.
A Celebration of Life will be 1:00pm Friday at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home with interment following in Fairview Cemetery, Bastrop.

It is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Jude's Children Hospital.
