Leroy Beck

Leroy James Beck was called from this life on Thursday, November 26, 2020.  He was born July 13, 1939, in Bastrop, Texas, to Anton and Gertrude (Frerich) Beck.  The fourth of seven children, Leroy was a kind, considerate and loyal husband, father and grandfather.  He taught his children about "yankee dimes" and hard work, teased his grandchildren about their music and dyed hair, and shared a lasting bond with his wife of 62 years.

Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Patrick Beck, and sister, Myrtle Wilhelm.  He is survived by his wife, Zelma (Williams) Beck, his children, Wesley Beck, Tina Templeton, Marty Beck, Wendy Mehaffey (Jay Mehaffey), and Lora Wilhelm (Brandon Wilhelm).  Grandchildren: Karl, Michael, Celia, Melissa, Cynthia, Kirsten, Courtney, Alan, Jerry, Michael, Janell and Katelyn.  Great Grandchildren: Tyler, Mitchell, Marshall, Maeson, Dixon and great great grandchild Bo.  Siblings: Elvira Norment, Bernadette Barton, Generosa Lowden and Merle Beck.

Leroy grew up in Rockne where he attended Catholic school at Sacred Heart.  He lived his entire life in the Bastrop area, and gave back to the community for most of that time.  He was involved in the LBA Volunteer Fire Department, including Fire Chief, for multiple years.  He would saddle up his horse and ride in many parades with the Sheriff's Posse and he supported his Church through volunteer work at countless festivals and other events, and rarely said no if asked to do just about anything. He worked and retired from LCRA and during his years there made many lasting friendships.

Passing away on Thanksgiving Day made us all pause and give thanks - for him and for where he is today because we know he is smiling down on us, wondering what music or color hair is next for the grandkids, and trying to explain to God why he got his knuckles rapped by a Nun with a ruler so often in high school.

His laugh, smile and heart of gold will be missed by all.
