Our sweet Linda Kay Smith passed away on June 19, 2020 at the age of 75. She was born on December 30, 1944 in El Centro, California to the late Buck and Georgie Mathis.
Linda grew up in Portales, New Mexico where she met and married Kenneth E. Smith of the US Air Force. They lived in southern Illinois and Jonestown, Texas before settling in the Bastrop area in 1976 with their 3 kids.
Linda was known for making everyone feel welcome. She always had an open door, open ear, and usually something yummy to eat. She loved spending time outside at the ranch in Rockne, feeding and watching the birds and looking for rabbits and deer. She also loved to go shopping and to eat at her favorite restaurants with family, (especially Red Lobster). Linda lived for family. She loved holidays, big family get togethers, and reunions.
The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Yount, DO and his staff as well as the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care in Bastrop for their care and commitment to Linda.
Linda is survived by her husband of 59 years, Kenneth Smith, and their three children, Kerry Smith of Georgetown, Kevin Smith of Bastrop, and Kristi Cleveland of Manchaca. She also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Jonathan, Jeffrey, Ariel, Southerland, Dalton, Bethany, and Dustin, 3 great-grand-children, Bentley, Apollo, and Levi, many nieces and nephews, in-laws, extended family, and friends.
Linda is now in Heaven with her parents, Buck and Georgie Mathis, as well as her 7 siblings, Walter, Bobby, Melvin, Glen, Jerry, Thurzia, and Alene.
We will celebrate Linda’s life and the reunion with her parents and siblings in Heaven at 10am on Friday, June 26 at the Bateman Cemetery followed by a light lunch at the Smith home for family and close friends.
