Margaret Montgomery

On Wednesday, September 5, 2018, Margaret Montgomery, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 75. Margaret was born on February 25, 1943 in Temple, TX to Clyde and Lucille Burtchell. She graduated from Temple High School in 1961, where she was an avid tennis player. On February 27, 1961, she married Roy Dolan Montgomery. They raised a daughter and three sons. Margaret spent her time as a mom and homemaker and later as a daycare worker.

Margaret was a fantastic cook. Anytime she was in the kitchen, Roy was right alongside her helping. They worked as a team in all they did. Margaret was known for her love of her family, especially her grandbabies and great-grandbabies. She adored rocking and singing to any little ones in her care. She had a passion for crocheting and needlepoint, and she was always eager to make a blanket for a new baby in the family or for an upcoming birthday or Christmas gift. She was often found crocheting a new project while she watched television. She loved to read and always had a big, thick book nearby. She absolutely loved her dogs, though she may have loved cow-themed knick-knacks more. This did make buying gifts for her much easier, so long as they had a cow or cow pattern.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Lucille, her husband, Roy, her granddaughter Stephanie Montgomery, three brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her four children, Theresa Brune and her husband Richard, James Montgomery and his wife Deanna, Glenn Montgomery and his wife Shirley, and Tyler Montgomery and his wife Keri, three sisters, ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00pm Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Marrs-Jones-Newby
Funeral Home in Bastrop, Texas. Graveside services will be 11:00am Monday, September
10, 2018 in Fairview Cemetery, Bastrop, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions be made to the American Lung
Association, or the American Cancer Society.
