Neil Goertz

June 22, 1967 — January 9, 2025

Red Rock

Neil Edward Goertz entered his heavenly home on January 9,2025. He was 57 years old.

Neil was a very compassionate man and enjoyed helping people. He was extremely intelligent and gifted, (traits that were inherited by his daughters) and shared his gift when called upon. However, when called upon for advice he was pretty sure his way was the right way. Neil was a fairly quiet guy, but if he had something to get across, he could be heard loud and clear.

Neil was the last of 10 children born to Francis and Virginia (Lehman) Goertz. He spent his lifetime in Rockne, Texas, a community he dearly loved. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Neil met his wife Kristi while she was visiting Rockne. They married on October 3, 1992 and made their home in Rockne. Their first daughter Amanda Lauren was born December 16, 1998 and their second daughter Taylor Kathryn was born January 24, 2002. He was a loving dad and supporter of all their school events and religious upbringing. His proudest dad moments came just last year after attending both daughter’s graduations on the same weekend. Amanda received her Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas Christian University and Taylor received her Bachelors in Finance from The McCombs Business School at the University of Texas in Austin.

Neil was a very enthusiastic fan of The Texas Longhorns. He so enjoyed the UT vs. A&M game this past fall.

Neil retired from the Attorney General’s Office after 33 years. He was a dedicated employee. After retiring he took a little time off and then decided he needed a part-time job. He has been employed at Auto Zone in Bastrop where he enjoyed making deliveries and making new friends.

Another one of Neil’s greatest enjoyments was BINGO. He loved everything about it and had a standing ritual every Wednesday night at the VFW in Rockne. He also helped with Bingo at the Rockne bazaars and lately has been going to Schulenburg on Monday nights with sisters Rosie, Donna and Edith.

He is survived by his wife Kristi, daughters Amanda and Taylor. His siblings: Frankie Schroeder (Ken), Rosemary Whiteaker (Bo), Donna Friske, David Goertz (Ann), Vincent Goertz, Connie Davila (Albert), Edith Goertz, George Goertz (Cindy), Joe Goertz (Stephanie).

Also survived by his mother-in-law Elgia Florianic, brother-in-law Darin Florianic (Jenny) and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Francis and Virginia Goertz and father-in-law Harvey Florianic.

May you rest in everlasting peace, Neil. You will be missed by many family members and old and new friends. You are now a charter member of the Heavenly Bingo Society and May the Eyes of Texas be upon you and with you!
