Raymond was born on February 9, 1933 to Modesta Marquez and Simon Ramon of Utley, Texas. Raymond died on December 4, 2024at home with his loving family. He was preceded in death by both parents. After completing high school, Ramond worked for the City of Bastrop for 4 years in the Electrical Department. He entered the Army on June 11, 1953 and was honorably discharged on April 30, 1955.
Raymond married Orfalinda Dominguez on October 4, 1958 and that loving union lasted 66 years, for the rest of his life.
He began his career in construction, working at the local lumberyard, later working with Sonny Merino and Roy Juarez where he learned the art of carpentry. He would continue working as a carpenter until he retired at 80+. Raymond was a skilled carpenter who loved a challenge and took great pride in his work. Many homes and buildings in Bastrop have his fingerprints on them.
After retirement, Raymond worked around their home and spent time in his workshop every day, until the last few years of his life. He loved to work! After work, Raymond loved to watch boxing matches, he played a little softball and fished as often as possible.
Raymond and Linda had two girls, Linda Ramon and Cynthia Merino. He is survived by his wife, Orfalinda, daughter, Linda, daughter, Cynthia and husband Ricky Merino, grandchildren, Ricky Merino, Brian Merino and Jasmine Merino, great grandchildren, Alexis Merino, Josilin Merino, Ava Merino, Gabriella Merino, Isaiah Merino, LaDainian Merino, Aniyah Merino, Z’Riyah Merino, Aviana Moore and Aaliyah Moore.
The family appreciates the outpouring of love at this difficult time and they ask that in lieu of flowers, you may wish to donate to the charity of your choice in Raymond’s honor. A celebration of Raymond’s life will be planned and the date, time and place announced on this site.
