Refugio Samarron

Refugio D Samarron of Cedar Creek, TX passed away in Austin TX on December 9 2020 at the age of 69.  Refugio was born in Odonnell TX on May 25 1951, to Santiago and Genoveva Samarron.

He married his high school sweetheart Rose Velasquez on May 15, 1971.  They were happily married for 49 years.  He joined the United States Army in October of 1971 where he served during the Vietnam war.  He actively served during 1971-1975.

He worked very hard on obtaining a degree and accomplished this goal in 1992 where he earned his Bachlelors Degree in Criminal Justice from West Texas A&M.  He worked many years as an employee of the State of Texas.  Prior to his retirement in 2013 he worked for Adult Protective Services.  Due to his hard work ethic he continued to work after retirement doing odd jobs and always on the go.  He eventually found his nitch lastly working for the organization “Meals on Wheels”.

In 2004 he and his wife Rose became members of the BCOC.  He enjoyed being a greeter at the church and loved welcoming those he knew as well as those who arrived for the first time.

His interests included family, physical fitness, outdoor activities and loved working on cars.

Refugio is survived by his wife Rose Samarron, two daughters and their spouses Rachel & Javier Chavira, Jennifer & Jesus Lugo and his two sons and their spouses Refugio Jr. & Dana Samarron, Jacob & Monica Samarron.  Two grandchildren Adrian Chavira and Zane Tanton.  He also had 15 brothers and sisters Lupe Garcia, Janie Samarron, Jimmy Samarron, Julio Samarron, Manuel Samarron, Arturo Samarron, Rosie Samarron, Rebecca Gonzales, Sandy Samarron, Frank Samarron, Dimas Samarron, Henry Samarron, Terry Dabrowski, Eufemia Longoria, and step brother Raul Triana.

He was preceded in death by his father Santiago Samarron and mother Genoveva Samarron.

Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, December 14, 2020 at Marrs Jones Newby Funeral Home. The funeral home is located at 505 Old Austin Highway in Bastrop, Texas.

The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at BCOC (Bastrop Christian Outreach Center). The church is located at  1096 HW 71 West in Bastrop, Texas.
