Robert Glynn Housewright, Sr. of Harwood, Texas peacefully left this world on February 22, 2025, at the age of 87. Robert (known by family and close friends as Bob) was born in Florence, Texas on June 2, 1937, where he grew up on the family farm.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Yvonne Housewright; parents, John Garrison and Adella Pearl Housewright; sisters, Dorothy Jean McDaniel and Lula Florene Frisinger. Robert later remarried Polly Housewright who has also passed.
Bob worked many years on the farm picking cotton and tending cattle all while attending school. Getting an education and hard work were both instilled in him by his parents. Bob graduated from Florence High School and then graduated from a trade school in Dallas, Texas. After graduation he stayed in Dallas and began working at a publishing company. During this time, he met the love of his life, Peggy. They married and moved to Odessa, Texas where Bob worked for a radio station and later television station-KOSA and then moved on to work for RCA. In the mid-sixties, Bob and Peggy moved their family to Austin, Texas where he worked for the City of Austin in the radio communications division. Bob retired from the city in the late seventies and went on to own his own business, Radio Communications Engineering. He later sold his business in the early nineties. Bob went on to retire from the business that bought him out in 1997. In 1998 Bob and Polly moved to Harwood where he raised registered Longhorns and worked tirelessly on the ranch until recently.
Bob had the love of outdoors which included hunting, fishing and camping. He spent as much time as he could on the lake or in the woods. In his later years, he traveled seeing as much of God’s country as he could.
Peggy led Bob to be back in church early in their marriage. Bob and Peggy were both saved and were baptized on Easter Sunday. They both were active in the church. He was ordained as a deacon in 1968 and continued to stay active in the Baptist Church until health issue made it harder to attend in recent years. He never missed an opportunity to watch a service on tv or to watch two of his nephews who are preachers stream their services on the internet. Bob also never passed up an opportunity to share Jesus any and everywhere.
Bob is survived by his children and their families: Rhonda Besa (husband Steve-deceased), Tanya Brewer (husband, Larry) and Robert Housewright Jr.; his grandchildren: Stephanie (Chelle) Jackson, Kristen Brewer, Stephen Besa and Brandon Brewer (fiancée’ Kerri Alexander); and great-grandson, Caleb Jackson. Numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews and other family members. He also leaves behind his beloved companion, Bentley.
Bob’s legacy lives on through the family he cherished and the many lives he touched. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
