Samuel Headen

November 26, 1945 — July 27, 2018

Samuel Raymond Headen, age 72, of Bastrop, Texas was called from this life on July 27, 2018 in Tucumcari, New Mexico. He was born November 26, 1945 in Belton, Texas.

Sam was proud of his service in the United States Coast Guard. Sam enjoyed many years as a chef for the federal prison system. Beginning in Connecticut, he was transferred to the Bastrop FCI in the 1980's. On February 14, 1995 he married Josephine Mae Headen.

Sam could never say "no" to anyone as his love was truly unconditional. He was generous with all he had. He loved to garden and share the vegetables with his friends and neighbors. Sam enjoyed fishing and was planning trips with his wife, Mae. Sam also enjoyed the Bible. He read it faithfully and listened to it going down the road on his many trips.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Dorothy Headen; his first wife, Mary; and a daughter, Kimberly.

Sam is survived by: his wife of 23 years, Josephine Mae Headen; a son, Arthur Headen and wife Kimmy; a daughter, Tonya Barker; 4 step-sons, Robert, Charles, Edward, and Richard Freeland; 21 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
