Sophie Harrigan

Sophie Harrigan (Nalepa), 94, of Austin (previously of Bastrop), Texas, passed away on December 22, 2023.

Sophie was born on January 26, 1929, to Andrew and Louise Nalepa in Queens Village, New York.

Sophie was a Senior Typist at Corporation Trust for about 10 years, which was one block from Wall Street. Sophie took the subway and bus to work. She played the accordion and loved a good polka. She loved to garden and to cook.

On October 29, 1955, Sophie married Henry Harrigan. They were married for 62 years and had 6 children: Paul, Sharon, Bryan, Mary, Diane, and Lorraine.

In 1984 Sophie and Henry moved from Hicksville, New York to Texas and lived in Utopia, Yorktown, and Bastrop, then Sophie moved to Austin.  

Sophie was predeceased by her husband, Henry Harrigan and their baby Mary; her brothers and sister: John, Henry, Emil, Stanley, Louis, Mary, Bill. She is survived by 5 children: Paul (Sharon) Harrigan, Sharon Vaughn, Bryan Harrigan, Diane (Shannon) Ewing, and Lorraine (Charlie) Wright. Sophie was Nana to many: 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

A memorial mass will be announced at a later date.
