Arthur Spencer “Tobe” Hubbard, 82, of Bastrop, Texas passed away Saturday, November 23rd, in Austin, Texas. Tobe was born in Houston on July 21st, 1942, to Gaylord Spencer and Berta Sue Moseley Hubbard. Tobe attended Rochelle Elementary and Junior High School and graduated from Brady High School. He began classes at the University of Texas in 1960 in Austin, Texas but put education on hold and entered the work force. He later attended St. Edward’s University, achieving his bachelor’s degree. He worked for the City of Austin for several years before finishing his career with the State of Texas. He retired from the Texas Department of Transportation in 2008. After retirement, Tobe dedicated his time to Masonry and was a Master Mason belonging to the Mina Lodge #1456 AM&FM Bastrop, Texas, holding many positions including Worshipful Master.
Tobe was the proud father of two sons, John and Jad. He married his forever love, Rilene Adams, on January 5, 1990. They lived in Bastrop County for the entirety of their marriage. Tobe and Rilene were blessed with six grandchildren.
Tobe Hubbard’s Celebration of Life service will be on December 1, 2024, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Smithville, Texas. A formal viewing will be held just prior to the service at 1:00 PM. The service will be officiated by Pastor Michael Murphy. The burial will follow at 1:00 PM on Monday, December 2nd at the Rochelle Cemetery in Rochelle, Texas.
The pallbearers are Jackson Hubbard, Mark Moseley, Kyle Moseley, Ronnie Reinisch, Tony Christopher, and Dusty Pearce. Honorary pallbearers are John Moseley and Ben Bozeman.
Tobe was preceded in death by his parents, Gaylord Spencer and Berta Sue Moseley Hubbard. Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife, Rilene Hubbard, sister Gayl Taylor and husband Rod, sister-in-law Carol Ann Hagood and partner Holly, his son John Hubbard and wife Julie, his son Jad Hubbard and wife Deanna, and grandchildren, Jackson, Jett, Jaci, Kailee, Lainie, and Kinnley, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Texas Masonic Retirement Center or Shiner’s Hospital.
