Reverend Tommy H. Cassel, age 84, passed away at his home in McAlester, Oklahoma, on June 11, 2021. He was born in Phelan (Bastrop County), Texas, on May 13, 1937, to Oscar and Mary Cassel. He lived in Texas for most of his life, where he met and married Jean Hodgson in 1959. After attending the University of Texas, he became a licensed minister with the United Pentecostal Church. In over 50 years of ministry, he assisted several pastors, founded churches in Lockhart, Texas and Round Rock, Texas. He served as a sectional Home Missions director for the UPCI. Tommy led Calvary Apostolic Church of Round Rock for over 25 years. During that time, he built three church buildings, founded Calvary Christian School, and started a business. For 35 of those years in ministry, he also served as an accountant and CFO at Child Inc.
“Brother Cassel”, was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend who was known for his generosity, faith, and integrity. He gave his all to helping people succeed in their pursuit of God and the abundant life He promises. He was a pastor, visionary, and mentor, who will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Nevelyn Corbett and Joyce Wolfe, his brother Lee Cassel, and his nephew John Corbett. He is survived by wife Jean Cassel, his sister Helen Hancock and his brother Oscar Cassel, and many other family members.
His descendants include daughter Carolyn Hanson and her husband John, daughter Rebecca Cassel, son Tim Cassel and his wife Melissa, and son Andrew Cassel. His grandchildren are Philip Hanson and wife Kristianna, Grant Cassel, and Brooke Shirk and husband Owen, and Tommy James. His great-grandchildren are Jett and Levi Hanson.

A graveside service will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bastrop located at 1307 State Highway 95.
