Vincent Kortz

Vincent Kortz, age 77, of Cedar Creek passed from this life on November 26, 2016 at his home. Vincent was born April 26, 1939 in Panna Marie, Texas to Leo and Julia (Moy) Kortz. Vincent was married to the love of his life, Elizabeth Tschoepe, on June 3, 1961 in New Braunfels, Texas. Vincent never met a stranger. No matter who you were, or where you were, he would strike up a conversation the minute he met you He grew up in the farming communities of Panna Maria, Fashing, Greenow, Smiley, Gylett, Yorktown, Karnes City, Westoff and Nixon, Texas. He moved to San Antonio in 1959 where he worked for Metzgers Dairies. In 1961 he and Elizabeth moved to Austin, Texas where he worked at Superior Dairies as a bottler until his retirement in 1982. They moved to Cedar Creek, Texas in 1965 and continued to live there over 50 years until his death. Vincent was a family man. When his children were growing up he worked 2 jobs to see their needs were met. While working at Superior Dairies he also worked at Handy Dan, Davis Hardware, and J. A. Martin Grocery. After retirement he kept his grandchildren until they entered school. He also loved to garden and always had beautiful potted plants. He built birdhouses for Purple Martins using PVC pipe and many of them are still seen in the front yard of their home. Vincent raised chickens, guinnies, and turkeys. Some of his favorite things to do were deer hunting, farm auctions and Warrenton Trade Days (antique and craft sales for miles along the roadside). Vincent was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and a sister. He is survived by: his wife of 55 ½ years, Elizabeth Kortz; a son, Kevin (Rhonda) Kortz; daughters: Katherine (Jimmy) Hanna, Karen (Greg) Mahanay; a brother, Aloys (Norma) Kortz; sisters: Florance Warzecha, Justine Drapalla, and Rosie Craig; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
