Virginia H. Russell Ming went home to meet her Lord Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 at St. David's Hospital in Austin, Texas at the age of 94. She was born to Robert H. and Verna Mallison Russell Nov. 11, 1922 in Paris, TX. She received a BA from Baylor University and a MRE from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She served as Minister of Education at First Baptist Church, Port Arthur until her marriage to William L. Ming May 31, 1949. They were married for 62 years until his death in 2011. They had two children, Robert Sterling Ming and Ginni Lee Ming Smith.
For most of her life, Virginia dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker. After her family was reared, she became the serials librarian at the Texas Collection of Baylor University where she worked until her retirement. Throughout her life, she served many churches as a Sunday school teacher, most recently at First Baptist Church, New Braunfels. Over the past five years, she loved and was dedicated to her church, Wyldwood Baptist Church of Cedar Creek.
Virginia loved many things in her life, including her Lord, her family and her Baylor Bears. She loved gardening and spend many hours digging in the dirt. She truly lived by her favorite scripture, "Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." - Joshua 24:15
Virginia is survived by her son, Robert S. Ming and wife Cindi of Waco, TX; daughter, Virginia (Ginni) L. Smith of Bastrop, TX; grandsons, Robert L. Ming and wife Becky, Christopher W. Ming, Marcus D. Smith, Chad B. Smith and wife Ashley, and Michael Coppinger; and great-grandchildren, Nathan, Mikayla and Aiden Ming; Jolie and Camden Ming; Jordan Smith; Cooper and Cambelle Smith.
Visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Marrs-Jones-Newby Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00am Friday, December 30 at Wyldwood Baptist Church with graveside following at 2:00pm at Salado Cemetery in Salado, Texas.
