Yvonne Mellinger

December 2, 1938 — April 28, 2017

Yvonne Charlotte Mellinger was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on April 28, 2017 after a two year battle with cancer. Yvonne was born at home in Fairfield, Montana on December 2, 1938. She was the eleventh child of George Ross Mellinger and Silver (Young) Mellinger. At 12 years old Yvonne moved with her parents and sister, Donna, to Bagley, Minnesota where she graduated from High School in 1957. After graduation, she moved to Auburn Washington to work for Boeing Aircraft. In May, 1963 she married Harry Minnick and in 1970 moved to Texas. Next to Montana, Texas was her home state. She always said she wasn't born in Texas, but got here as quick as she could. Yvonne was faithful and loyal to her church, family and employer. After attending Draughon's Business College in San Antonio and living in Dallas for a time, she moved to Austin where she worked for Capitol Bolt & Supply until her retirement in 2005. Sports, including tennis, softball, snow skiing, water skiing, hiking, horseback riding, backpacking, horseshoes and washers were always a big part of Yvonne's life, but after retirement golf took a front row seat. She loved the challenge of the game and wonderful friends she met wherever she played. Yvonne loved animals and always had a special one or two or ten around her house. Growing up on a farm in Montana gave her a real love of horses. She was a happy cowgirl when she had a horse or two on the place.

In 2009, Yvonne accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Her desire to know and service Him became her passion. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bastrop. Her service to the community included volunteering for the Red Cross, making wheel chair ramps for the county, serving as an officer in the Golf Association and started the Hide Out dinners at the church. Yvonne loved to travel, especially to Montana for family reunions, but her mission trip to Tennessee was one of her most faith filled experiences.

Yvonne is survived by her son Mike Minnick and wife Jackie, her brother Rolland Mellinger, sister-in-law Betty Mellinger and many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Ross, Chad, Russell, Duane and sisters Melva, Sylvia, Levoy, Jean and Donna.

A memorial service will be held for Yvonne on Monday, May 1st at 11 o'clock AM at the First United Methodist Church of Bastrop. A reception will be held in the fellowship hall after the service.

Donations in memory of Yvonne can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Bastrop, Brookdale Hospice or a charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank Dr. Steven Yount, the therapists from Robinson Creek Home Health, Drs.
